About
An illustration exhibition “Decorative Sculpture in Kaunas.” With this cycle of illustrations, the artist seeks to remind viewers of sculptures in Kaunas that have been forgotten by time and people.
Scattered throughout the city, works belonging to various genres most often emphasize nearby objects and frequently simply decorate parks or squares. Many of the sculptures depicted in the illustrations were created during the years of Soviet occupation. The cycle was inspired by the artist’s own discoveries, his interest in the authors of the sculptures, and the history of their creation. While creating this cycle, a major discovery for the artist was the pano (decorative wall relief). There are quite a few works of this type of decorative sculpture in Kaunas and throughout Lithuania; they most often adorn the façades of significant buildings, universities, and sites related to energy or culture. The exhibition also presents legendary works by one of T. Bujanauskas’s favorite sculptors, Juozas Ruzgas: “Perkūnas” (1967), “Palangos Juzė” (1978), and the copper pano “Šiluma” (1973). “Plazma” (1972), located on the wall of the Lithuanian Energy Institute, captivates with its aesthetic quality and minimalism.
